Why should we dream?

Welcome to the happiness blog. In case you are visiting for the first time, please do not forget to follow. Each post on this blog has a single objective- to make your everyday life happier.

Hey, you should dream. You should dream big because you have one life and you want to make something of it. More than wanting to make something of life, you should want to be happy. Don’t you? I mean don’t you want to be happy? If you don’t, then anything on this blog won’t appeal to you since this blog is about everything that makes people happy.

I believe having dreams, and chasing those dreams makes people happy. I haven’t quite achieved my dreams yet, as a writer, but that’s what I am trying to do with this blog. I believe that this is work that will last beyond my lifetime, and someone will come someday here, and say, ‘wow, this is a great blog. It could help people lead a happier life.’

Anyway, I don’t want to talk about myself. I want to talk about you and your dreams. Do you dream? If you don’t, why don’t you. We should dream because it’s dreams that make life worth living. If you don’t dream, you wouldn’t know about what could be possible and you wouldn’t have anything worthwhile to work on.

There are two ways to approach life.

Follow your dreams. Don't be a sheep in the herd.

One is the unconscious way, where you don’t know why you do what you do. You don’t have a why behind your actions and decisions and so you go with the flow. This is how I lived most of my life too till I realized it makes no sense.

An unconscious life doesn’t yield much happiness. You feel driven by people’s beliefs and their attitudes about life, and hence you end up doing what the crowds do without a conscious realization of the reasons. You don’t dream because you don’t know what should you dream about and hence there is general lack of direction in your life. You try to choose paths most people are choosing and run pretty fast in that direction but speed is counterproductive if you are running in the wrong direction. It is a waste of life.

The second path is the conscious path of dreams. When you dream, a lot of things change in your life. You become more conscious, aware, and focused about what you want to achieve. Dreams, when tied to deadlines are called goals, and when you have goals, you are driven to achieve those goals.

Follow your dreams.

Things start to make sense when you dream. You have a reason, you have a why behind your actions and you feel that your life has purpose and your days have meaning. Most people don’t dare to dream because they feel they might fail. But, failure is to not to be feared. It needs to be embraced. It’s not failure until you have given up on your dreams. Everything else is just feedback from your mistakes that you must make so that you grow. You can’t grow without making mistakes. Remember, as a child, you were supposed to fall when you learnt to ride a bicycle? It is as simple as that. Failing is a part of the process of learning and it’s not something to be embarrassed about.

When you dream, you start truly living your life. Consider the fact that life is precious, and even then most people don’t feel excited about it. It’s crazy. You start living when you start working on your dreams. You feel inspired to work. You feel inspired to rise up and get to work. You can’t quite dream about boring stuff. You would only dream about something that would make your life happier and more fulfilling.

That last point begs the question- how do we know if our dreams are right?

The only way to really figure it out is to trust your heart. Everybody doesn’t have to have the same kind of dreams because we are all different as people. Different people dream of different things and that’s okay.

Dreams would naturally be as varied and different as the people who dream them. In order to find out if your dreams make sense for your life, just walk the dream and see if it makes you happy.

For example, if you dream of becoming a writer, try writing an article or a short story. If you do end up becoming a writer, you would be writing a lot, and hence it is important for you to understand if that feels right. The only way to truly figure if your dream would make you happy is by doing what you feel would make you happy. May be when you really sit down to write something, you would realize that you suck at it, and totally don’t enjoy it. Then, becoming a writer is not the right dream for you. You need to figure out something else. You need a different dream.

Similarly, this goes for a choice of a romantic partner. If you think someone would make you happy in the long term, live with them, like you would when you would be married to them. See how that feels. Give it time. If that feels right, you can go ahead with the decision of you can correct your dream, and keep looking till you find what’s right for you.

It is trial and error process to find what makes us happy. The most important thing is to not give up on dreams and compromise with mediocrity. This is what most people do. Since you read the Amarvani happiness Blog, I won’t want you to fall in the same trap.

Keep looking for your dreams. Your dreams are the pathway to your happiness. Quit everything else but your dreams.

Once you find your dreams, never give up. Once you find what makes you happy, do not give up. You don’t have a choice now but to make your dreams a reality. The problem is most people don’t reach a point where they know what they want from their lives. They don’t know their dreams.

Never give up on your dreams.

You have, and once you have, you can’t give up. Some people are quite fortunate to find their dreams early in life. Consider Olympians. Most of them start training in their childhood and by the time most people start their corporate careers, Olympians are at the other end of their careers.

However, this is not true for the majority of the society. The majority doesn’t have a clue what it wants, and hence it needs a process of trial and experimentation to find what they are passionate about.

Your dreams are things you are passionate about. You need to find your passion since your passion is going to fuel your dreams. Your passion will give you the energy to take on the fight that’s required to make your dreams a reality.

Passion is a strong force. It can fight anything. When people are passionate, they find themselves fighting problems they didn’t think they could fight. Have you seen a woman in love? She transforms into a person who is way more powerful than she ever was without love. A woman in love is unstoppable. So is a man, but the stark contrast is more evident in case of women since they are not designed as strong as powerful on the outside by nature.

It is important to follow your dreams for the sake of your life. It is important to follow your dreams so your life matters. So, life matters. Dream for the sake of your life. When you dream big for your life, you inspire others to dream big for their lives as well.

Dream because your dreams are you. You are your dreams. Your dreams are meant to be the impact your life is supposed to make while you are alive. Until you find your dreams, you must keep looking. The doorway to finding your dreams is passion. You need to figure what you are passionate about so your life becomes a force for good. Only when you follow your dreams, and do stuff you are passionate about, do you truly live. Most people don’t live. They just survive. You don’t want to be one of them, do you? Go, chase your dreams and don’t stop till you make them into reality.
