I want you to be happy in the NOW!

Welcome to the happiness blog. In case you are visiting for the first time, please do not forget to follow. Each post on this blog has a single objective- to make your everyday life happier.

My name is Amar and I want you to be happy NOW. Like, right now. No? You won’t? Why? What went wrong with you? Who told you that you need 10000 things to be happy?

I am here to tell you that they were wrong. Since you are reading this, you care about your happiness, and you want to be happier.  I appreciate you, and I care that you are happy.

I really don’t give a fuck about the miserable set of people called society who place so many barriers in the path to happiness that happiness has somehow become a sort of an unrealistic impractical chimera. It is not. Fuck these people, who place barrier after barrier in your journey to be happier inside. I am your friend. You don’t know me and it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you can be happy starting now.

You don’t have to wait till you finish your school to be happy. No, you don’t have to. You don’t have to wait till you finish your college to be happy. You don’t have to. You don’t have to wait till you get married to be happy. You don’t have to. You don’t have to wait till you have kids to be happy. You don’t have to. You don’t have to wait till your kids grow up to be happy. You don’t have to. You don’t have to wait till your kids marry to be happy. You don’t have to. You don’t have to wait till you have grand kids to be happy. You don’t have to. You don’t have to wait till you retire to be happy. You don’t have to. You don’t have to wait till you are on your deathbed to be happy, for there will be nothing left to life. You don’t have to wait.

I am here to tell you that you can be happy starting now, and you must be. Here are a few things I need you to start doing right away.

1. Stop doing things you don’t like

Just stop. Life is not a burden. Life is NOT a burden. You are not meant to do things to please people. Stop doing stuff you don’t like. If you are in school or college, stop caring about the subjects you are miserable at. Don’t care. Just score passing marks in subjects you don’t like. Double down your efforts on subjects you like.

If you are a corporate employee, and you hate your job, quit! Quit the fucking job. Don’t quit immediately if you have kids and wife and parents financially take care of, but quit as soon as possible and move on to something you like, even if it pays less to start with. Eventually, you will be paid more. More importantly, your life will stop sucking and you will not hate your days anymore. Money that you make doing stuff you hate is hate worthy. You should detest that money because making it is fucking killing you inside.

If you are married and have a family to take care of, you didn’t need these responsibilities before you took care of your happiness. The point is we shouldn’t have kids when we don’t know what to tell them about life. If you don’t know how to follow your dreams, how would you tell your kids to follow their dreams? You don’t know anything about the process of how to make dreams work, and unless you figure that out for yourself, why would you want to build a family?

The society is fucked up. Everybody is doing stuff they don’t like to please others when they are rotting inside. Pretense has taken over the whole social structure.

You want to be happy now onwards? Stop doing stuff you don’t like.

I don’t care what your life stage is. There is absolutely no excuse to living a miserable life and knowing that you are miserable, just because everyone else does it.

2. Take stock of your life. You have more than you can be thankful for

Too many people complain so much. It’s a complaining society. Everyone is just complaining all the time. Consider these rumblings from just around you.

Be grateful, to be happy.

“We don’t have a bigger car. We don’t have a bigger house. The neighbor just got a bigger dining table. We need a hair dryer that cost a $1000 because my friend bought it. We haven’t travelled to an exotic location in a while. The floor is not shining enough. We haven’t had a buffet in a while.”

What the fuck! Why do we complain so much? Do you realize that in India, there are over 700 million people who live on less than $3 a day, as per the World Bank?

Now, I am not saying being poor is a good thing, but one can at least be happy and grateful for what one has? Where is the gratitude in the society? It is just not there.

It is a complainer’s society. A society that is perennially complaining about something or the other just because people are finding it hard to catch up with the peers who are busy catching up with them. There is no class of people who complain as much as the middle class. The middle class complains so much because there are insecure and lack self-esteem and so they try to make up their self-esteem by buying things they don’t need.

You want to be happy? Stop complaining and just look at how much you have been blessed with.

3. Drink in the sunshine

You want to be happy? Go, drink in the winter sunshine. It is free. No cost. Nature give it to all of us free of cost and so we don’t value it. Dance and run, when it rains. You won’t fall sick. Even if you do, there are medicines available. I haven’t heard of anyone dying because they danced in the rain.

There is so much that nature has given us that we could enjoy every day. Travel, while you can, to places you have not seen. Learn from new people. Observe how the world works, and learn. Enjoy music. It is available for free on the internet. The world has never been a better place. So much is available free on the click of a button. You can search for whatever you want on google. Do you realize how much of the goodness in the world is free? Why can’t you be happy about that?

Go, drink in the sunshine.

4. There may be no later

We are mortals. You could drop dead of a heart attack or a brain haemorrhage or an accident or an earthquake or a 100 other things any day. Why do you assume that one day, when you have fulfilled all the responsibilities that rest of your shoulder, you would be happy? What makes you assume that? What makes you think that there is definitely a tomorrow?

Live while you are alive.

None of us knows if there is a tomorrow and none of us have been guaranteed one. Yes, we need to plan as if we will live on, but our planning needs to also factor in the possibility that we would die tonight.

So, plan as if you will live forever, and live as if you will die tonight.

What does that mean?

That means that your plan needs to reflect mortality. You need to only have those things in your plan that really matter. You don’t have to have anything that doesn’t matter or add value to your life or your happiness. None of us have been guaranteed that we will reach the destination, and so we need to live our lives as if we will die on the journey. That is true, that we will eventually die on the journey to some goal. Therefore, we must set goals that we enjoy the process of achieving. We shouldn’t go on destinations if we believe the journey would suck. I can’t quite explain this in a better way.

There may be no later. One day this will be true. We will die leaving things undone for life is a continuum and it will exist beyond us. What would really matter at the end is if we lived while we were alive.

5. When you feel like crying, cry

Be honest with yourself.

You must be thinking this guy is nuts. Here he is telling me to be happy now, and now he is saying that I should cry. Yeah, you should cry. Be fucking honest with yourself in every moment of your life. Do not lie to yourself. In a pretentious world, we are surrounded with people who are lying to others, and who are lying to themselves.

Don’t lie to yourself if truly want to be happy. If you feel like crying, whenever you feel like crying, cry. Let it go. Let the tears flow and don’t stop them still they dry up. You will feel better. You have my word.

6. Work hard to create your happiness

Create your happiness!

Work hard to create happiness. Happiness is a two-step process. First, you find it. Them you work on creating it. If you don’t create happiness, you won’t have anything to feel. It is quite like taking a bath. If you don’t take a bath, which is a mundane everyday activity, unless you bathe with different people every day. It is mundane to take a bath. However, we do feel better after taking a bath. I can’t believe sometimes that my entire mood gets lifted up after putting water on my body. It is crazy, and so I try to never miss it.

Similarly, if you want to be happy, you need to the things that make you happy every day. I love writing. So, I try to write every day. I also love the stage, and so I try to hit the stage as often as I can.

You need to figure out the things that make you happy and then do them every day to create your happiness. That is the process to be happy. There is no other way.

7. Persist

Once you find your happiness and you start working on creating it every day, there will be challenges. If you have a family to take care of, it will be far more difficult than it would be, when you are single and you only have to take care of yourselves.

So, you would need to persist. There are people who ask, ‘how long should we persist to make our dreams a reality?’ The answer is forever, till the last moment of your life. What kind of dumb question is that? We live in a world where most people are unhappy. We live in a world where most people don’t even know what they want. If you have been fortunate enough to reach a point where you know what makes you happy, why on earth would you give up?

I believe if you do these things, you would be happy. It is not that difficult. It is just difficult that we live within a set of people who don’t allow us to do these things. It is not that difficult to be happy, only if we could find our tribe.

When you feel lost in life fighting the pretentious society where everyone is trying to please everyone else, I want you to come back here. Read any of my posts. Remember, there is a guy called Amar, and he wants you to be nothing, not successful, not rich, not anything else, but happy.
