In love with books, forever

If you fall in love with books, you would never have to depend on a human being ever in your life. Books have been my constant companion for decades now, and they have allowed me to read some of the finest minds in the world. If you love books, and you love reading, your would come across to anyone listening to you as a learned man or a woman. Fall in love with books. Love doesn’t usually get permanent, but love with books does.

Books are an integral part of my life. At least I think so and since think so, it is so.

Why are we in love with books?

We love books not for one reason. It would be almost an insult to books if the love for them is not deciphered and broken down minutely.
Since this description is not just about “Why I love books” but “Why some of us love them,” this article would deal with the latter question.

We love books because they present an image of what life could be or could not be. It would be best to look at a few genres and try and understand what reading them does to our minds and our visceral experience while reading them.

We love books which present a fictional world to us. We love them because we love stories. Stories entertain us. Someone rightly said that ‘reality is stranger than fiction.’ We know from our everyday experience that anything is possible in life and that is why the likes of us in India believe in mythology and fictional creatures. We love fiction because of its sense of curiosity. It makes us want to know what happened to the protagonist and other characters which the writer presents to our mind.

Books – a world of emotions

We love books for entertainment. Books entertain us and take us to a world which is beyond our own world and is beautiful. It is a world we may want to be a part of. They talk about people like us. They enamor and entice us.

Books make us laugh. We love to laugh. Isn’t it? At least most of us love to laugh and a writer who can use his wits to effect is writing would certainly find many admirers.

Books make us feel painful emotions like grief, loneliness and help understand what could be ways of dealing with them. For example, if we find a character in a book deals with loneliness in a manner that’s not painful but enlightening and useful, then we can try and incorporate that attitude in our lives.

Books make us think. They make us question the reality and if it could be any different. They make us think if we could be doing things differently and not the way we have been used to.

Read different kinds of books

One of my favorite genres is autobiographies and I know a few friends who love the same genre. Autobiographies are so entertaining and inspiring, almost all the time. It’s like talking to a great mind while sitting on your armchair. We love autobiographies because they give us an opportunity to talk to some of the wonderful people human race has had and learn from them and become better human beings.

Books describe life. We love books because they are accounts of what is possible and what could have been.

Books help us understand what emotions means. All of us learn differently and some of us have learned a lot about life through the books we have read.

What do books do?

Books describe the emotion of love, of joy, of pain, of suffering, of beauty, of agony in such minute detail that only words can serve the purpose. Only books can put life in a slow motion. Only books can describe and help us understand life in a manner that it should be understood.

Books record the history of the world and help us make sense of the life around us. Books give meaning to life.

We love books because books are a representation of the human mind and of human experience. All of us would be so incomplete if we could not express ourselves. Writers are gifted people who have the ability to weave words in manner that they appeal to the human mind.

I owe my life to the books I have read

Books, oh I love you. You have made me the kind of person I have become. You have made me think, you have made question my life, the lives of people who surround me. I love you because you have been my friend whenever I have found wanting a friend. Who knows, you may want to write a book someday?

We love books because they are one of our closest friends. I have kissed a many of them. I have cried while reading them and I have laughed while reading them.

Conclusion- read a lot of books

We love books. A few of us do and we will continue to love them. They could come by way of philosophy, fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, humor, biographies, autobiographies, any which way but we will love them because they help us grow, become better human beings while at the same time, entertaining us and give us company when we need one the most.

Oh, and by the way, I have written a few.
